I might be up when the clock strikes 12 this New Years but it won’t be in a fancy dress at a party, I won’t be drinking champagne, and the only thing I’ll watch drop will be a dirty diaper into the trash. And you know what? I’m totally fine it.
Just a few short years ago my husband and I were some of the first to show up and last to leave at friends parties. We stumbled the couple of blocks home at odd hours of the night, took short notice trips, and knew all the breweries in town. Fast forward to today and we are late to the party, pretty much only talk to the toddler and baby we brought to the party(who cried half the way there), have maybe one drink, and are home by 8:00pm.
There have been times when I’m tempted to resent this. To mourn the ease of life before kids. To wish we too could go out till midnight for New Years.
And then I look at those two sweet babies smiling back at me. I look at Elijah and how fast two years went and I think about how fast the next 16 will go and he’ll be gone followed quickly by Isaiah. And it’ll be back to just the two of us, coming and going as we please.
Whatever season if life you are in, whether it’s no kids, babies, busy sports schedules, kids are gone, or grand babies – embrace it. It’s so much easier to be successful at anything when you give it your all so go for it. Hold that baby and watch those soccer games without reserve or want for something else.
My season is babies. So if you need me this New Years Eve I’ll be in my pjs, one glass of wine in, and hopefully sleeping at midnight. Most likely holding or feeding a baby, but hopefully sleeping.
What’s your season of life? And what are your New Years plans?
